Spring has sprung and StoryTime at Yoakum County Library Plains enjoyed the colors of the season on Wednesday, April 20, 2016. As is customary, the children counted up to the date and talked about the month and weather, followed by singing “Days of the Week.” Rounding out the routine, the pledges to the American and Texas flag were recited.
Renewing the song from last week, the group circled up like sharks to sing “Baby Shark” with many giggles! The first book shared was the colorful and imaginative “My Garden” by Kevin Henkes. The youngsters then sang “I’m a Little Daisy” before reading Karma Wilson’s book called “Bear Sees Color.” A fun action song called “The Gardener Plants the Seeds” (to the tune of “The Farmer in the Dell”) introduced the last book, which continued with the garden-color-theme, “Planting a Rainbow.”
A short episode of Nickelodeon’s Max & Ruby “Max’s Worm Cake” captivated all the little gardeners! Those growing gardeners in attendance were Gershom & Ben McAdams, Ethan Moya, Johan Neudorf, Nathan McAdams, Ethan Garcia, Ariah & Andi Coronado, and Nataly Cerritos.
A hand-print flower was the painting craft, and the children then participated in the rhyme “Wave Good-bye.” There were handouts including coloring sheets and find-a-picture, as well as a parental resource. Next week, Wednesday, April 27, the group will welcome Michelle Cooper, the Education and Outreach Coordinator for the Southern Ogallala Conservation & Outreach Program at 10 AM. Everyone, all ages, are welcome for this “Spring Showers” water conservation program. Following the program, all who are interested can go to the Plains ISD Library for a special Scholastic Book Fair shopping time.
