The Yoakum County Commissioners Court convened at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 1 in the Commissioners Courtroom at the County Courthouse in Plains, Texas, where they conducted their weekly meeting.
Those in attendance included Commissioners Woody Lindsey, Ray Marion, Tommy Box, and Tim Addison along with County Judge Jim Barron.
Others present for all or part of the session included County Clerk Summer Lovelace, County Treasurer Darla Welch, County Auditor Darinda McWhirter, CDA Bill Helwig, and Sheriff David Bryant.
Moving into the agenda which started with the payments of all bills which included County bills of $34,680.44 and hospital bills that totaled $62,863.12. Also approved was a list of part time salaries.
In the first item County Auditor Darinda McWhirter asked the Court to consider and approve action on a Resolution of Acceptance on HAVA Grant for the County Clerk. She explained this grant goes toward election expenses. Commissioners unanimously approved her request.
Sheriff Bryant approached the Court requesting a payout of comp time for deputy Kelly Williamson. The Commissioners unanimously approved his request.
In the next item Commissioners Ray Marion requested permission to advertise for bids for the purchase of a pickup for Precinct #2 and a separate truck for the Yoakum County Landfill. These two vehicles will replace two older model pickups in the Precinct. The deadline to submit a bid will be June 18, bids will be awarded on June 22.
There were no road crossing permit applications, no request for the disposal of county equipment, no line item transfers, and no Soil Conservation request.
The next scheduled Court session will be on Monday, June 8 starting at 10am in the Commissioners courtroom.
Before the Court adjourned the Commissioners discussed the Cares Act Grants and Shinnery Oaks information on their budget. Billy Jewel and Greg Bruce from 24 Karate were present to answer any questions and to address any concerns. Shinnery Oaks is owned by Yoakum County and is managed by 24 Karate out of Lubbock. The nursing home currently has 49 residents.
