Yoakum Commissioners hold meeting

The Yoakum County Commissioners Court convened at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 20 in the District Courtroom at the County Courthouse in Plains, Texas, where they conducted their weekly meeting.

Those in attendance included Commissioners Woody Lindsey, Ray Marion, Tommy Box, and Tim Addison along with County Judge Jim Barron.

Others present for all or part of the session included County Clerk Summer Lovelace, County Treasurer Darla Welch, County Auditor Darinda McWhirter, and Chief Deputy Robert Whitfield.

Moving into the agenda which started with the payments of all bills which included County bills of $58,85.93 and hospital bills that totaled $101,887.64. The Commissioners unanimously approved the payment of all bills.

In the first item on the agenda the Commissioners unanimously approved to take action on imposition of optional fees for the Calendar Year 2020. Commissioners Tommy Box asked Judge Jim Barron. The judge explained these fees and learned it was a road tax and a fee for registration.

Chief Deputy Robert Whitfield approached the Court requesting expenditures from line item for the purchase of ticket printers. These small printers will be installed in each deputy’s vehicle where traffic tickets as well as other reports can be printed instead of handwritten. The total cost will be $9,950. Whitfield informed the Commissioners the department has $10,000 in their budget for this purchase. The request was unanimously approved.

This was followed by the Precinct #1 Justice of Peace Marc Traweek making the same request. He informed the Court with these printers and the software it would help speed up the process of addressing the citations. “Some of the citations that go through our office look like they were written by a Deputies toes and not his fingers,” Traweek noted with a smile on his face. “These electronic ticket writing machines will definitely speed up the process.”

Although Precinct #2 JP Troy Scott was not in attendance, he also made the same request.

In the next item Precinct #4 Tim Addison requested the total crowd presence at a rodeo event should be set at 600 fans. This would include seating in all set of the bleachers plus standing room. After more discussion Judge Barron suggested the number should be set at 650. After a motion was made the Commissioners unanimously approved to set the number of visitors and fans at 650.

There were no road crossing permit applications, no request for the disposal of county equipment, no line item transfers, and no Soil Conservation request.

The next scheduled Court session will be on Monday, July 27 starting at 10am in the Commissioners courtroom.
