The City of Brownfield, BIDCorp, & the Chamber saw much growth in 2024

In 2024, Brownfield Industrial Development Corporation (BIDCorp) and the city of Brownfield experienced a successful year with many positive developments.

One significant achievement was assisting in bringing Tractor Supply Company to Brownfield. BIDCorp was thrilled to be part of this project, which required several months of hard work to make it a reality. Additionally, BIDcorp actively supported a couple of businesses in the wine industry. Despite the recent economic downturn, these companies have impressed BIDCorp with their innovative approaches to sustaining and growing our local economy. Tailored 385 and Texas Vine Country are ambitious and committed to promoting Terry County wines in the Texas wine industry. BIDCorp was proud to partner with these two companies in their endeavors.

Furthermore, BIDCorp has been a crucial partner in supporting the Brownfield Independent School District’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs. BIDCorp contributed matching funds for the Ag Drone program, which is gaining momentum. Additionally, they helped equip the Building and Trades program with the necessary tools and equipment. BISD is leading the way in Texas with its innovative CTE initiatives, and BIDCorp is pleased to be part of a program that prepares students for high-skilled careers. Also, in April, BIDCorp collaborated with the school district and South Plains Workforce to host a Job Fair, and they are looking forward to another successful event this year.

Looking ahead to 2025, BIDCorp is excited about several opportunities, with the top priority being the transition from a Type A Corporation to a Type B Corporation. As a Type A Corporation, BIDCorp is required by state law to primarily focus on attracting industry and manufacturing to Brownfield, which we have achieved successfully. However, this limits the ability to support retail growth. Although BIDCorp has found creative ways to assist retail in the past, changing to a Type B Corporation will enable it to attract additional retail businesses to Terry County more effectively.

This change requires the approval of the citizens of Brownfield, and you will see it on the May ballot. The only changes will be the name and the range of activities BIDCorp can undertake. As you may know, BIDCorp is fully funded through sales tax, which will not change. Your sales tax rates will remain the same, which is 8.25%, and the collection process will continue as in the past. What will change is BIDCorp’s ability better to serve the needs of Brownfield and Terry County.

More information will be available soon about the changing Type “A” to Type “B” election and your vote to help make Brownfield an even better place to live, work, go to school, and shop!
