Funeral Service for Jimmy Ladell Nelson will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at United Family Fellowship, with Rev. Cameron Kirkland officiating. Visitation will be held from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday, January 17, 2025, at Brownfield Funeral Home.
Jimmy was born on June 25, 1953, in Brownfield, TX, to Raymond Ladell and Bessie Irene Nelson. He passed away on January 8, 2025, at the age of 71.
A proud graduate with a bachelor’s degree in education, Jimmy devoted ten years of his life to shaping young minds as an elementary school teacher in Muleshoe, TX. His impact on his students extended beyond the classroom; he was not only their teacher but also their mentor and friend.
In addition to his love for teaching, Jimmy was a musician. He had a natural gift for playing the guitar and harmonica, often bringing joy to family and friends with his heartfelt performances. Even after being diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, Jimmy’s determination shone through as he continued to play harmonica, demonstrating his strong spirit and passion for music.
Jimmy is preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Bessie Nelson. He is survived by his brother, Terry Nelson of Ft. Worth, TX; nephews, Tyler Nelson and wife Valerie of Bedford, TX, and Garrett Nelson of Azle, TX; niece, Haelee Blanton and husband Reed of Roundrock, TX; and caretaker, Brittney Shrimpton and family of Brownfield, TX.
