The children wrapped up a very busy StoryTime month at the Yoakum County Library in Plains on Wednesday, March 30, 2016, with a caterpillar-spring theme! While discussing the weather outside and counting to thirty was enjoyable to the all-boy crowd, the most energy was put in to the “Days of the Week” song. Continuing with the musical enthusiasm, the youngsters put their fingers together for “The Itsy Bitsy Spider” and “Five Little Hot Dogs.” Following the songs, the group discussed the American and Texas flags, as well as reciting the pledges.
Those in attendance were Nathan McAdams; Jordy Bell; Ethan Moya; Ethan Garcia; Ian DelaRosa; Ben and Gershom McAdams. A felt board story gave the guys a different experience (much thanks to Cecil Bickley Library for the loan!). The classic and much-loved story of “The Hungry Caterpillar” by Eric Carle was retold with participation from the children, which seemed to heighten their hunger as well! The group then moved on to listening to two other caterpillar books: “First the Egg” and “Ten Little Caterpillars.” Since the last couple of weeks have been quite windy, “A Windy Day in Spring” finished out the read-alouds. A short episode of Mickey Mouse–“The Little Whirlwind”–kept the boys laughing, and the motion rhyme “Wave Good-bye” was recited as they prepared to exit. Jordy Bell added the book “Hop on Pop” to his personal bookshelf because he was this month’s door-prize winner.
StoryTime is a weekly event at the Yoakum County Library in Plains and is open to all ages of children and their caregivers. Wednesdays at 10 am during the regular school year is the time the group meets.
