Plains High School had several students compete at the Region 16 UIL Solo and Ensemble Contest at Coronado High School in Lubbock on Saturday, February 20, 2016
Lexi Flores, Erica Flores, Mayra Martinez and Mariah Henson performed a flute quartet titled “The Entertainer” by Scott Joplin. They earned a 2nd Division, indicating excellence.
Kaetlyn Taylor, Daniel Ramirez, Angelica Villarreal, Memo Loredo, Matt Gonzales and A.J. Henderson performed a brass sextet titled “Sourwood Mountain”, earning a 2nd Division as well.
Josh Hoecker performed a tuba solo titled “In the Hall of the Mountain King” earning a 1st Division, indicating Superior.
Bryce McWhirter earned a 1st division on his Class 1 solo, Chopin’s “Nocturne, Op. 9, No. 2. Having played this from memory, Bryce will advance to the Texas State Solo and Ensemble Contest.
