Making a Difference

I watch a lot of Andy Griffith. I am old. Deal with it. But, Andy, as with all other television or movie productions, has a director. As I was watching the credits roll by, I was thinking about the director and the different other behind the scenes players, as well as the actors, and the roles they play. I began to think about our roles here on this part.

Of course, God is our Great Director. He assigns parts to each of us and gives us a script. He expects us to fulfill our roles to the best of our ability. Directing us and giving us instructions along the way, in order that our performance is the best it can be. There are many roles to be played, and each one has to be fulfilled so the production will work as planned. I ask you now, what is your role in this life?

You might have a role as a preacher. I think most people see this as a key role in God’s plan. They think that the preacher is honestly the only one who really has to play his part. No one else is responsible for telling anyone else about Jesus. I will agree that the preacher is a very important role. But in this production we call life, there is no one role that is more important than another.

Your role could be that of a teacher, another important role. But your role also may be the one who works in the yard to keep it beautiful. Your role could be any number of things. As many occupations as there are in this world, each one can play an important part in God’s production here on earth.

I truly believe that God calls each of us to positions in life. I believe He calls farmers and bankers. I believe He calls waitresses and judges. I believe He calls us all. This is why it is so important to talk with God when you make important moves and career changes. He created you for a purpose.

Even though we all have been called uniquely to different positions, we all, as God’s children, share one calling in common. We are all called to tell the world about Jesus Christ and His saving grace. It doesn’t matter what your occupation is, you still have that responsibility to share Jesus with the world. And, while we each may someday get to retire from getting to go to work each day at a job, the job of telling God’s story to the world never ends.  You can play that role to your very last breath.

Sometimes it seems we have stopped being concerned about the world around us. But, do you want anyone in your area of influence to die without knowing Jesus?? I surely don’t! Get up and get ready to play your part in this world! God created you for this! Tell the story of Jesus to those in your world. It will make a difference!
