DCHS Math and Science Teams Compete in Lubbock;Teams Score high

The Denver City Math and Science team traveled to Lubbock, Saturday, January 14^th, where they competed in the Texas Tech “Red Raider Classic” UIL practice meet.

Representing the senior class were Ray Carrasco, Gehrig Curtis, John Michael Davis, Erin English, and Cameron Garcia. The juniors consisted of Aylin Carmona, Avery Garcia, Brice Mansur, Ezekiel Marin, Abby Morales, Maraly Solis, and Caitlin Williams.

The lone sophomore was Daven Blanco and the freshman was Riley Calk.

The students competed in the 3A thru 4A division in their own grade level. Below are the results of this meet.

Ray was 9^th in Number Sense, 10^th in Calculator, 8^th in Math, and 9^th in Science; Gehrig was 5^th in Number Sense, 2^nd in Calculator, 7^th in Math, and 4^th in Science; John Michael was 4^th in Number Sense, 4^th in Math, and 5^th in Science; Erin was 7^th in Number Sense, 1^st in Calculator, 9^th in Math, and 8^th in Science; and Cameron was 3^rd in Number Sense, 8^th in Calculator, 6^th in Math, and 6^th in Science.

For the juniors Aylin was 8^th in Number Sense, 1^st in Calculator, 2^nd in Math, and 7^th in Science; Avery was 7^th in Number Sense, 8^th in Calculator, 6^th in Math, and 10^th in Science; Brice was 6^th in Number Sense, and 5^th in Math; Ezekiel was 10^th in Calculator; Abby was 10^th in Number Sense and 5^th in Science; Maraly was 10^th in Math and 8^th in Science; and Caitlin was 2^nd in Number Sense, 9^th in Calculator, and 1^st in Math.

Daven was 9^th in Number Sense, 1^st in Calculator, 3^rd in Math, and 6^th in Science; and Riley was 3^rd in Number Sense, 4^th in Calculator, 5^th in Math, and 3^rd in Science.

In overall scores in 3A and 4A, Cameron had the 4^th highest Number Sense score and Caitlin had the 6^th.  Aylin had the top Calculator score, Erin had the 2^nd highest and Gehrig had the 6^th. In Math, Caitlin had the 4^th highest and John Michael had the 5^th and in Science, Gehrig had the 6^th overall score.

 The Number Sense Team placed 2^nd; the Calculator Team was 1^st; the Math Team was 2^nd; and the Science Team was 3rd.

Erin English won a $2000.00 scholarship for having the top senior Calculator score.
