DCHS Math and Science Teams Compete in Lubbock;Teams Score high

The Denver City Math and Science team traveled to Lubbock, Saturday, January 14th, where they competed in the Texas Tech “Red Raider Classic” UIL practice meet.

Representing the senior class were Ray Carrasco, Gehrig Curtis, John Michael Davis, Erin English, and Cameron Garcia. The juniors consisted of Aylin Carmona, Avery Garcia, Brice Mansur, Ezekiel Marin, Abby Morales, Maraly Solis, and Caitlin Williams.

The lone sophomore was Daven Blanco and the freshman was Riley Calk.

The students competed in the 3A thru 4A division in their own grade level. Below are the results of this meet.

Ray was 9th in Number Sense, 10th in Calculator, 8th in Math, and 9th in Science; Gehrig was 5th in Number Sense, 2nd in Calculator, 7th in Math, and 4th in Science; John Michael was 4th in Number Sense, 4th in Math, and 5th in Science; Erin was 7th in Number Sense, 1st in Calculator, 9th in Math, and 8th in Science; and Cameron was 3rd in Number Sense, 8th in Calculator, 6th in Math, and 6th in Science.

For the juniors Aylin was 8th in Number Sense, 1st in Calculator, 2nd in Math, and 7th in Science; Avery was 7th in Number Sense, 8th in Calculator, 6th in Math, and 10th in Science; Brice was 6th in Number Sense, and 5th in Math; Ezekiel was 10th in Calculator; Abby was 10th in Number Sense and 5th in Science; Maraly was 10th in Math and 8th in Science; and Caitlin was 2nd in Number Sense, 9th in Calculator, and 1st in Math.

Daven was 9th in Number Sense, 1st in Calculator, 3rd in Math, and 6th in Science; and Riley was 3rd in Number Sense, 4th in Calculator, 5th in Math, and 3rd in Science.

In overall scores in 3A and 4A, Cameron had the 4th highest Number Sense score and Caitlin had the 6th.  Aylin had the top Calculator score, Erin had the 2nd highest and Gehrig had the 6th. In Math, Caitlin had the 4th highest and John Michael had the 5th and in Science, Gehrig had the 6th overall score.

 The Number Sense Team placed 2nd; the Calculator Team was 1st; the Math Team was 2nd; and the Science Team was 3rd.

Erin English won a $2000.00 scholarship for having the top senior Calculator score.
