The Denver City City Council met in regular session on Monday, April 6 where they addressed a short agenda.
During the announcement portion of the meeting City Manager Stan David commended Dave Tedford for his coordinating of the demolishing of the D-Mac building. 5L Sales, CJR, Henry’s Welding, Pate Trucking, Lee and Josh Kidd, and Ray Marion all had a part in making this demolition quick and successful.
After the minutes from last meeting were approved, the Council went into new business. The first item on the agenda was to discuss and consider disaster declaration and emergency measures.
There was lengthy discussion during this time about closing the lobby of City Hall, city bills, late fees, and disconnects, and setting a city-wide curfew. At the end of the discussion, it was decided to leave City Hall lobby open for now, but the City Manager has the authority to change this if there are new developments with COVID-19.
City Hall will continue with the policies they have in place for late charges and disconnects. City Manager, Stan David, is encouraging the public to please call the office if you are experiencing difficulty with paying your bill so payment plans can be worked out.
Chief Hennigan did elaborate on the suggestion of implementing a curfew to go along with the executive order from President Trump and Governor Abbott. He stated that there are groups of people that continue to gather and socialize in late hours.
Once the council heard from the Chief and had their own discussion, it was unanimously decided to implement a city-wide curfew for ALL citizens. These hours will be from 11PM to 5AM, seven days a week.
There are exceptions for those still continuing to work, but the police officers will be watching for those just gathering to talk. They will issue warnings in the beginning, but if one is repeatedly being out during curfew hours, they could face fines.
The next item on the agenda was Consider 2020 Consumer Price Index Adjustment to Municipal Telecommunications Right-of-Way Access Line Rates. The rate is currently set at $1.44, and the council voted to keep this the same.
Mayor Hicks, then made a motion to go into executive session.
Following the Executive session, the Council unanimously approved paying the bills that totaled $190,426.22.
With no further business the Council adjourned at 8:20.
