The Honorable Commissioners Court of Yoakum County Convened at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, April 6 in the Commissioners Courtroom of the County Courthouse in Plains, Texas, notice of SPECIAL meeting having been duly posted as required by law.
Those in attendance included Commissioners Woody Lindsey, Ray Marion, Tommy Box, and Tim Addison along with County Judge Jim Barron.
Others present for all or part of the session included County Clerk Summer Lovelace, County Auditor Darinda McWhirter, County Treasurer Darla Welch, Sheriff David Bryant, Chief Deputy Robert Whitfield, CDA Bill Helwig, County CDA Assistant Toni Jones, and Tax Assessor/Collector Jan Parrish.
During Public Comments County Auditor Darinda McWhirter informed the Court that she had received a notice from the Texas Association of Counties Risk Management Pool (TACRMP) recognizing Yoakum County for zero lost time safety award. Judge Barron read the Press Release (which is also in the DC Press) for the entire court to hear.
Judge Barron also took time to once again recognize the department heads helping the county overcome the COVID-19 disease. As of Press time there were no reported cases of the virus in Yoakum County. Led by Lubbock County who has reported 154 positive cases there has been 118 cases reported in the neighboring counties. There has also been reported seven deaths on the South Plains.
Moving into the agenda a motion was made by Commissioner Addison to approve the paying of the bills ($96,078.83 County and $108,957.85 Hospital. Also included was the Part-Time Payroll). The motion was seconded by Commissioner Marion and was unanimously approved.
The Commissioners also unanimously approved the deputation of Wesley Moore as a full time deputy for the Sheriff’s department. Moore was previously employed as a Sheriff Deputy and was CDA Bill Helwig’s special investigator. He returns back to the county after serving with the Denver City Police Department.
Also unanimously approved was appointing Commissioner Tim Tadlock as a contact person for the TxDot Grant Program.
Chief Deputy Robert Whitfield approached the Commissioners requesting a new dishwasher, replacement of a fire panel, and patrol four rifles. The Court unanimously approved his request.
There were no road crossing permit applications, no request for the disposal of county equipment, no line item transfers, and no Soil Conservation request.
After a short recess the Court reconvene for a short Workshop session to discuss County Transportation Infrastructure Fund.
This next scheduled Court session will be on Monday, April 13 starting at 10am in the district courtroom.
