Yoakum County Sheriff David Bryant was successful in his bid for reelection as held off the challenge of hopeful Charlie Higgs.
Bryant received 326 early votes and an additional 345 on Election Day for a total of 671. Meanwhile Higgs, who at one time was the Chief Lieutenant for the Denver City Police Department, received 184 early votes and 161 on Election Day for a total of 345 votes.
Assuming there are no independents or write in candidates and no Democrats who have filed for that position Bryant will begin his new 4-year term on office on January 1, 2021.
In other local elections 121st District Judge John A. “Trey” Didway was unopposed and will also start his new term on January 1. Other local candidates who were also unopposed included County Tax Assessor/Collector Jan Parrish, County Commissioner #1 Woody Lindsey, County Commissioner #3 Tommy Box and Republican County Chair Ann Saxon.
In other Republican Primary contest President Donald Trump, Republican US Senator John Cornyn, and District #19 US Representative Jodey Arrington were also big winners in their respective races. Also running unopposed was District 88 State Representative Ken King.
In the Democratic Presidential race Joe Biden edged Bernie Sanders 33-30.
Cornyn and Arrington will both have a Democratic candidate to run against in the November General Election.
There were also 10 Republican Propositions and they also passed by a landslide vote.
In addition to the Republican Propositions there were also 11 Democratic Propositions and like the Republican Propositions they also passed.
The next local election of interest to Denver City voters will be the school board election on May 2. There are five candidates running for three positions in that election.
The National General Election will be held on November 3.
