The Denver City City Council met in regular session on Monday, January 6, where they addressed their agenda.
After the invocation by Mayor Tommy Hicks and pledges to both the United States and Texas flags and approving the minutes from the previous meeting the Council moved into their agenda.
During the announcement portion of the meeting County Judge Jim Barron addressed the Council concerning the demolition of the D-Mac building. Mayor Hicks had met with the Commissioners during their previous meeting asking for the counties help in tearing down the building. This item was on the Commissioners agenda earlier Monday and several questions were asked, including a timeline for the demolition. Mayor Hicks noted more specifics on the project would be addressed and he would get back with the Commissioners.
In the first item on the agenda City Manager Stan David updated the Council on a request from Echo Wireless concerning the construction of a wireless tower just south of Peevy Oilfield Service. Cheri McElroy, Project Manager, informed David and the Council the coordinates where the tower would be located. In her letter she noted this location had been approved from the FAA for both the tower and the construction crane to install the structure and in no way would interfere with in coming or out going flights from the Denver City airport. The height of the tower would be 150 feet with a red warning light attached to the top.
Local attorney Paul Mansur, who is representing another wireless service, was also in attendance to offer some suggestions on how the two companies could possibly share the same tower that is already installed.
After more discussions a motion was made to table the issue to give both companies time to discuss the two towers.
In the next item David presented a proposed letter that would be sent to water/sewer customers concerning the optional line replacement insurance. This item had also been discussed at a previous meeting. This insurance will be offered by Service Line Warranties of America (SLWA). They offer repair work for water and sewer lines from alleys to the home in case either line is damaged. A motion was made and unanimously approved to allow SLWA to send the letter to local homeowners.
And in the last item David addressed the engineering agreement for the sealcoat project for North Main and various other streets. The city is using West Texas Consultants as the engineer for the projects. Payments to WTC is estimated to be $12,860.
Bids will be received until 4pm on Wednesday, January 29, 2020 at the Denver City City Hall.
The north Main project had been approved last year but no one submitted a bid on the job. A few more streets have been added to the project as alternate bids.
With there being no reason to go into Executive Session, a motion was made to the pay the regular bills that totaled $155,456.80.
Councilmembers in attendance included Joan Breith, Robert Hanneman, Clinton Bowman, Mark Sherman, and Keith Mensch along with Mayor Tommy Hicks. Councilman Ronald Weir was not in attendance.
The next meeting will be held on Monday, January 20, in the Council chambers starting at 7pm.
