Yoakum County Commissioners meet

The Honorable Commissioners Court of Yoakum County convened at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, April 13 in the District Courtroom of the County Courthouse in Plains, Texas, notice of SPECIAL meeting having been duly posted as required by law.

Those in attendance included Commissioners Woody Lindsey, Ray Marion, Tommy Box, and Tim Addison along with County Judge Jim Barron.

Others present for all or part of the session included County Clerk Summer Lovelace, County Auditor Darinda McWhirter, County Treasurer Darla Welch, Sheriff David Bryant, CDA Bill Helwig, County Judge Secretary Toni Jones, and Tax Assessor/Collector Jan Parrish.

Moving into the agenda a motion was made to approve the paying of the bills which included County bills of $67,285.13 and hospital bills that totaled $344,154.89. 

Tax Assessor/Collector Jan Parrish was also present to present her monthly report. She informed the Commissioners her office had collected $84,463.42in taxes during the month of March.

County Treasurer Darla Welch also presented her report for the month of March. She informed the Court the county had a beginning balance of $61,614,775.86 and an ending balance of $60,981,648.15. Her report was also unanimously approved.

Following those two reports Judge Barron acknowledged receipt of monthly reports from the County Clerk, Justice of the Peace #1, Justice of the Peace #2, and the Sheriff’s office. His report was also unanimously approved.

Judge Barron then read a proclamation declaring April 26 to May 3, 2020 as Soil & Water Stewardship Week. In part the Proclamation declared “fertile soil and clean water provide us with our daily sustenance and effective conservation practices have helped provide us a rich standard of living and concluded with stewardship calls for each person to help conserve these precious resources.”

There were no road crossing permit applications, no request for the disposal of county equipment, one-line item transfer, and no Soil Conservation request.

The next scheduled Court session will be on Monday, April 20 starting at 10am in the district courtroom.
