Haley Villarreal had a banner game on Saturday against Slaton as the freshman had a grand slam and two doubles that led to 7 RBI’s in a 15-4 win on the Fillies home turf.
In her first at bat she doubled to the right-center field fence, had her grand slam in the second inning, and closed out the game with 2 RBI’s in the fifth inning that ended the game on the 10 run mercy rule.
The Fillies started the game with a four run first inning, added six more in the second, two in the third and run ruled the Lady Tigers with three more in the fifth.
A much improved Slaton team plated two runs in both the third and fourth innings.
The Fillies blasted Slaton pitching for 13 hits that led to their 15 runs. Heidi Gonzales also came up with three hits and three RBI’s, Jewell Santillan had two hits including a solo home run in the game ending 5th inning, and Haleigh Gonzales, Denisse Saenz, Hanna Gonzales, Kathleen Chavez, and Johnna Hix all finished with one hit.
Haleigh Gonzales went the distance for the Fillies giving up four runs on 10 hits, walked 2, and had three strike outs.
With the win the Fillies up their district record to 5-1 and stayed tied with Brownfield for the district lead.
They will travel to Idalou on Tuesday with a 4:30 start.
