Rain drops keep falling on my head!

And don’t you just love it! We have had a couple of rounds of pretty good rainfalls lately, and it looks like more could be coming our way in the next couple of days. It certainly has been nice and refreshing, but also just what our dry parched land needed.

Coming off an incredibly dry 2020 and a below average 2019, our water table had gotten extremely low and it was a long way down to moisture for these farmers putting seed in the ground, with little more than a prayer for rain to carry them over.

As Tate Newsom stated, “I had more rain in the last week than I had all last year.” And that is the truth. At Gomez, just over an inch and a half fell from early in 2020 until the last week or so. As we say, we are what the dry folks call dry! So this moisture is a welcome change.

Tate has already got some peanut seed in the ground, and got up this morning to find another half-inch in his gauge. “This has been extremely helpful and timely, for sure,” stated Tate.

Kirk Martin feels pretty good about the start to this crop year now. “We had about three-quarters of an inch most everywhere this morning. We started planting peanuts yesterday. So this will be helpful.”

Kirk, like the others guys has a few concerns about the cooler weather right now. “I am a little concerned about the cooler temperatures, but I hope it will warm up pretty quickly. This rain is still a really good start and, hopefully it will continue. We need the rains to continue to help make a dryland crop this year.”

Mason Becker said he has seen right about an inch from his home place on 403 all the way to Wellman. “This is definitely helping out as we are pretty heavily into planting our irrigated acres. We have about 3/4 of our peanut seed in the ground and we will start on cotton as soon as possible.”

Mason says they are still pretty dry in some spots and really need some more rainfall on the dryland. “Rain is always a blessing this time of year and we will continue to pray for more. We need a really good general rain to get a dryland crop in.”

Glen Martin stated he got around a half-inch of rain. “We have started planting peanuts. We have a circle done so far, will probably start cotton next week. This rain has been helpful.”

The forecast calls for more pretty good chances of rain in the next few days. Hopefully, this rainy trend will continue a few more days and give our soil a good soaking as we get into planting season.

Please pray for more rain for our area. We need it so desperately.
