OCT 17, 1948 — AUG 25, 2026
Funeral services for Danny Michael Decker, 77, of Brownfield will be held at 2 pm Friday, August 28, 2026 at Brownfield First Baptist Church. Visitation will be held from 5-7 pm Thursday, August 27, 2026 at Brownfield Funeral Home.

Danny entered the Kingdom of God on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, in Lubbock, Texas. Danny was born on October 17, 1948, to Lester and Gladys Decker in Brownfield. A 1967 graduate of Brownfield High School, Danny earned his bachelor’s degree from Texas Tech University in 1971.
While in college, even a short-lived, ill-fated amateur bull riding career could not derail what would become more than a half century of life together with his best friend. Danny and Marta were married on December 27, 1971 in Brownfield, TX, his home for more than 70 years of his life. Danny wrote, “Although all of it has been God’s plan, I will claim that my greatest accomplishment was that I was able to convince Marta to marry me.” Since 1971, whenever you saw one of them, you saw both of them. He spent the next 54-plus years loving her, cherishing her, and providing a life for her that will leave a legacy embodied in their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Danny’s life was characterized by the titles he held: Christian, Husband, Father, Papaw, and Friend. He lived out his Christian faith through serving Christ’s church and the souls entrusted to its care. He was a faithful member, Sunday school teacher, and deacon at Immanuel Baptist Church in Brownfield for more than 60 years, joining the First Baptist Church family in Brownfield during the last year of his life.
Professionally, Danny was the County Executive Director for the USDA/Farm Service Agency in Terry County for 32 years of his four decades with FSA. Danny and Marta retired together in 2010, sharing a life filled with morning prayers and devotionals for the ones they loved and those needing salvation, numerous trips and vacations with family, and cheering for their grands and great-grands across life’s endeavors. Retirement also allowed his “Never Met a Stranger” spirit to grow, making new friends wherever he went. While Danny found happiness and satisfaction in hobbies such as listening to the Beatles and Buddy Holly, playing disc golf in the park, or making handmade knives, the greatest joys of his life were found while driving with Marta in his MG to make a run to Sonic, and enjoying time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren, whom he adored.
To our Honey, Dad, Papaw, and Friend…you will be missed in this life. However, we “do not grieve as others who have no hope,” knowing we will join you in the everlasting praise and worship of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, in the eternal life that is to come.
Danny was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Gladys (Shepherd) Decker; sister, Cliffa Decker; and a grandson, Levi Michael Decker.
He is survived by his wife of almost 55 years, Marta Decker; children, Blake Decker (Jenny), Mika Wood (Marc), Sean Decker (Amber); 3 sisters, Leslie Neill (Keith), Debbie Liles (Rick), Stacie Robles (Cecil); grandchildren, Caleb (Sydney), Evyn (Ryan), Elijah, Jarrett, Aubryn, Jace, Grayson; 2 great grandchildren, Simon and Ailee Beth.
