The Brownfield City Council met in their last regular session of the year on Thursday, December 19, at 7:30 a.m. in the Council Chambers. All members were present with the exception of Lee Gamez, and Leon Pope.
It was a brief agenda with mostly routine business.
The first order of business was to recognize the City of Brownfield Employee of the Quarter. This Quarter, Sgt. Steven Ramon was recognized. He is head of the Criminal Investigation Division at Brownfield Police Department. He has worked for the Department since 2005, starting off as an Animal Control Officer. Police Chief Chris Kotzur recognized Sgt. Ramon as being a very hard worker, most of the time being the first one to work each morning. “Sgt Ramon has been instrumental in helping our department to do the work we have done, and he is eager to work with new officers in showing them the ropes,” stated Kotzur.

Streets and Sanitation Department Supervisor Javier Duran gave his quarterly report. All the paving projects have been completed in the City. There was some discussion regarding the runoff water around Brownfield High School and North Cedar. The school will be contacted to try to readjust their sprinklers and help with this problem. As far as sanitation, the City is now operating with both trash trucks. A new one is currently on order.
The Council did reappoint David Cox as Municipal Judge. The Municipal Judge is appointed for two year terms. Cox will be going into his second term as Judge. The Council was complimentary of Cox and the work he has been doing.
The Terry County Heritage Museum had presented a request for 2025 funding through Hotel Occupancy Tax Funds. This was approved in the amount of $5,000. A certain percentage of HOT funds must be used for historical preservation.
Also in the HOT Funds category, expenditures were approved for advertising throughout the Texas Hotel and Lodging Association. A certain percentage of HOT Funds must be used for advertising purposes each year.
The Council did go into Executive Session, with no action being taken upon returning.
