Making a Difference

Road construction has been the norm in my life recently. I live out in the country on a farm road. Recently, they were working on that road and had it down to one lane. I gave the flagman a hard time about how close I was to my house. I could open my garage from where I was! He laughed and let me go. Then they were working on 380, which is the road into town. Again, several times in my going and coming for a few days, I had to stop and wait for traffic to move again. I get into town and there is road construction everywhere it seems! All my roads are under construction!

This is true with all of us. All the roads in our lives are under construction until the very end. We never quit growing or learning in our lives. I am pretty sure the road I am on now is not my final road. And even if it is, there is still construction going on as I learn to seek God and follow Him in all my paths. As we travel our path in life, we have to watch out for detours and Road Closed signs. We have to watch for the flagmen warning us to slow down as we travel. We have to watch for the signs along the way.

Before we were born, God had a plan for us. He had a road all mapped out. He knows we take wrong turns along the way, but just like your GPS in your car, He says, “Redirecting!” And gets us back to where we need to be. In Jeremiah, He says, “Before you were born, I knew you. Before you were born, I set you apart.” He has a plan! He has that map for us to follow. Some of the roads will be paved and smooth sailing! Other roads will be rough and you may even need your four wheel drive for some of them. But God doesn’t just set us on a path. He equips us for whatever might be coming down the road. He just knows!! What a comfort that thought is.

But, how do we know what path we are to take? That is a really good question. You can start by weeding out the paths you know are definitely not meant for us. That includes things that lead us into a sin filled life outside His will. But finding the path is not always the easiest thing. It is made easier, however, if you spend time with God. If you spend time reading His Word and listening for His voice. In Isaiah, it says, “You will hear a voice behind you saying, ‘This is the way. Walk in it.” God is waiting to help us get where we are meant to go.

As you travel the highways and paths of this life, remember that God is going before you and guiding you. When you find yourself having to wait during road construction, use that time to talk to God and listen for His direction for your life. It will make a difference!
