Diane G. Mitchell, 87, passed away peacefully with family by her side on March 10, 2025 at the Kearny County Hospital in Lakin, Kansas. She was born June 1, 1937 in Vernon, Texas; the daughter of Howard Cermit and Ola Kate (Rains) Green.
Diane graduated from Levelland High School, class of 1955 and began her career in the banking industry with the First National Bank of Levelland, Texas. She married James Edwin Mitchell on April 18, 1957. The family relocated to Brownfield, Texas in 1967 where Diane continued her tenure with the First National Bank retiring in 1998 after 31 years in the industry. She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church, National Association of Banking Women, and The Red Skirts.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children- Jan (Manuel) Carrasco of Brownfield, Texas, Kay (Bob) Riedl of Lakin, Kansas. Her brother Jim (Jeanie) Green of Dallas, Texas; grandchildren- Carlen (Laurie) Collins, Ella Murph, and Danny Carrasco; great-grandchildren- Kamryn Murph, Bridget Murph, Bentley Collins, and Austin Collins.
Diane is preceded in death by her parents, husband- Jim Mitchell, and sister- Carolyn Baker.
Visitation will take place Wednesday March 12, 2025 from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Garnand Funeral Home of Lakin, Kansas. Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 am Thursday March 13, 2025 also at Garnand Funeral Home of Lakin, Kansas. Visitation will also take place at Brownfield Funeral Home of Brownfield, Texas from 10:00 am until graveside services. A graveside service will be held in the Terry County Cemetery of Brownfield, Texas at 2:00 pm Monday March 17, 2025. The family suggest memorials to the High Plains Retirement Village in care of Garnand Funeral Home.
