District Play Begins: Brownfield, Meadow and Wellman-Union Turn the Page

by Eric

The non-district schedule is complete, and now the focus shifts to the games that matter most. Brownfield, Meadow and Wellman-Union all open district play Friday night with a fresh start and postseason goals still in front of them. Brownfield hosts a tough Dalhart team, Meadow begins district action against Southland, and Wellman-Union takes on Dawson. Each team has battled adversity, learned through the early part of the season, and now enters district with the same message: everyone is 0-0, and the next game is the most important one.

Brownfield Cubs Turn Attention to District Opener Against Dalhart

The Brownfield Cubs are putting the non-district portion of the schedule behind them and turning their full attention toward what matters most — district play.

Brownfield will open district action Friday night at home against a tough Dalhart team, giving the Cubs a chance to reset, respond, and begin the most important part of the season with renewed focus.

In their most recent outing, the Cubs struggled to slow a physical rushing attack and couldn’t consistently match the intensity at the line of scrimmage. Brownfield’s coaching staff knows that winning football begins up front, and that will remain a major point of emphasis heading into Friday night.

“We were unable to stop their physical run attack and didn’t match their intensity up front,” the coaching staff said.

As Brownfield prepares for Dalhart, the coaches are continuing to simplify the scheme to help players react faster and spend less time thinking before the snap. The goal is to play with greater confidence, urgency, and physicality from the opening kickoff.

The Cubs understand that the start of district play provides a fresh opportunity.

“Our players know this is the best time to start to peak as we plan to start district,” the coaching staff said. “They are also aware that our district is very competitive, so we have to play our best version of football consistently for four quarters.”

That consistency will be critical against Dalhart. The Wolves present another difficult challenge, and Brownfield will need disciplined assignments, strong tackling and sustained effort on both sides of the football.

Despite the adversity the Cubs have faced this season, the message around the program remains positive.

“We are running through adversity for district play,” the coaching staff said. “This team doesn’t have any quit in them, and I’m excited to be their coach.”

For Brownfield, Friday night represents more than another game on the schedule. It is the beginning of a new season within the season.

The Cubs have an opportunity to take the lessons learned through the first six weeks, raise their level of play and establish themselves as district competition begins.

Brownfield and Dalhart will kick off Friday night in Brownfield, with the Cubs looking to protect their home field and start district play on the right foot.

Meadow Broncos Ready to Reset as District Play Opens Against Southland

The Meadow Broncos are turning the page and preparing for the most important part of the season as district play begins Friday night against Southland.

After working through some injuries during the non-district schedule, Meadow expects to get several players back this week, giving the Broncos a boost as they enter what the coaching staff views as a brand-new season.

The message is simple: everybody is 0-0 now.

The Broncos will look to carry a “1-0 mentality” into every week, focusing only on the opponent in front of them and doing whatever it takes to win.

Meadow continues to get strong production from several key players. Pancho Arita completed 7 of 11 passes for 82 yards and three touchdowns, adding two catches for 23 yards. Defensively, Arita recorded seven tackles.

Brayson Parker once again showed his versatility, completing 7 of 11 passes for 122 yards and three touchdowns. He also rushed 11 times for 144 yards and a touchdown, while catching two passes for 43 yards and another score. Parker added five tackles on defense.

EJ Piedra was another major contributor, hauling in four catches for 89 yards and two touchdowns while also recording six tackles.

With several players expected to return from injury, the Broncos hope to be closer to full strength as the district schedule gets underway.

A renewed sense of urgency and excitement is in the air. Everything that happened during the non-district portion of the schedule helped prepare Meadow for this moment. Now the standings reset, and every district team begins with the same record.

For the Broncos, the goal is not to look too far ahead… Win Friday… Go 1-0… Then do it again.

Wellman-Union Wildcats Carry Momentum Into District Opener Against Dawson

The Wellman-Union Wildcats closed out the non-district portion of their schedule on a strong note Friday night, putting together a solid performance on both sides of the football against Springlake-Earth. Now, with district play beginning Friday night against Dawson, Head Coach Labadie’s message is clear: the record resets, and the Wildcats are 0-0.

“I thought the boys played a great game Friday night,” Labadie said. “Both sides of the ball were getting after it. It was a great finish for the non-district schedule. But that’s over; we’re 0-0, and our focus is taking it one week at a time and putting ourselves in position to win a district title and secure a playoff spot.”

Wellman-Union had several strong individual performances in the win over Springlake-Earth, led by Gabe, who rushed for 224 yards and four touchdowns. He also threw for 49 yards and a touchdown, caught a three-yard touchdown pass, recorded 16 tackles and forced a fumble.

Edgar contributed 70 passing yards and two touchdowns and finished with 11 tackles on defense.

Braxton led the receiving attack with 80 yards and two touchdowns and made his presence felt defensively with four tackles and three pass breakups.

A.J. added 32 receiving yards and five tackles, while Noah rushed for 18 yards, caught passes for 14 yards, and recorded five tackles. Fabian added 12 rushing yards, eight tackles, and a pass breakup, while Brock threw for 10 yards and Ayeden recorded a tackle.

The balanced production was exactly what Wellman-Union wanted to see heading into the district portion of the schedule. The Wildcats produced offensively while also getting consistent defensive contributions across the field.

Now the focus shifts completely to Dawson.

With district play beginning, every game takes on added importance. The Wildcats know a strong start could go a long way toward their goals of competing for a district championship and earning a postseason berth.

For Labadie and his team, however, the approach remains simple — do not look too far ahead.

One week at a time. One opponent at a time. And for Wellman-Union, that starts Friday night against Dawson.
