The Denver City Math and Science team traveled to Lubbock, Saturday, December 3rd, to compete in the Texas Tech “Christmas at Tech” UIL practice meet where they came home with the 3A through 4A division Sweepstakes.

Due to other conflicts, only four DCHS students were able to attend. These four were seniors Ray Carrasco, Gehrig Curtis, John Michael Davis, and Cameron Garcia. Short in numbers these four seniors still managed to win the 3A thru 4A division Sweepstakes for Denver City.

The following results are for the individual contests: Ray was 7th in Number Sense, 9th in Calculator, 7th in Math, and 6th in Science; Gehrig was 5th in Number Sense, 2nd in Calculator, 5th in Math, and 5th in Science; John Michael was 4th in Number Sense, 3rd in Calculator, 4th in Math, and 8th in Science; and Cameron was 2nd in Number Sense, 4th in Calculator, 6th in Math, and 3rd in Science.

In addition, the Number Sense team was 2nd, the Calculator team place 1st, the Math team was also 1st, and the Science team was 2nd.

“Teams consisted of the top 4 scores from a school and that worked out well for us since we brought only four students,” Coach Richie Cullins said. “We were fortunate to bring home Sweepstakes honors with just these four. I am very proud of these students and how they represent our school district.”
