Commissioners Court Meets October 16

The Yoakum County Commissioners Court met in regular session on Monday, October 16, where they addressed their regular agenda.

In the first item on the agenda, the Court moved to audit and settle all accounts against the County and direct their payments. After looking over the bills and addressing any concerns a motion was made and unanimously approved to pay County bills that totaled $31,028.28 and Medical facility bills that totaled $210,206.80.

Tracey Woodward, CEO with Managing Senior Assisted (MSA), was present at the meeting where she introduced Corina Stewart, the new administrator for Shinnery Oaks. Woodward noted Stewart was a native of the Metroplex area and had recently moved her family to Denver City.

Woodward also took time to update the Court concerning things that were happening at the center. She said last week there were about 53 residents at Shinnery Oaks, but that number has now grown to 57. There are 60 beds available for residents. Woodward also updated the Commissioners on some financial issues.

In the next item Sheriff David Bryant requested the Court to approve the deputation of Morgan Fierro, Communications/Correction Officer for the Yoakum County Sheriff’s Department. Her deputation was unanimously approved by the Commissioners.

The Court also unanimously approved the appointment of Denver City resident Allen Peters to the Yoakum County Hospital Board. He will be replacing Edith Kidd who recently resigned from her position after serving on the board for several years.

Allsups requested permission to cement county roads around the new Denver City Allsups on highway 214. Judge Jim Barron said the request was made because of the anticipated heavy traffic and to handle potential future rainfall. The Court unanimously approved the request. The new store is expected to be opened by December 1, 2017.

County Extension Agent Bubba Lamolinare was also in attendance where he introduced Landon Carrillo, one of his 4H students. Landon then told the Court all the things he had been doing in 4H this year. Those activities included raising rabbits, shooting, archery, and his most favorite thing, cooking. He also said he just got back from a two day camp leadership weekend.

Following his presentation Bubba updated the Court on some of things he had been doing. He noted one of his future projects would be writing Ag related articles for the Denver City Press.

Moving on in the agenda, the Court unanimously approved a road crossing permit from Custer and Wright on County Road 145 in Section 3. Precinct Commissioner Tommy Box said they had submitted the proper paper work to him.

There were no request for disposal of county equipment, five line item transfers, and no soil conservation request.

The building contractor for the Denver City Community Building informed the Court things were progressing on the new facility. He was anticipating the painting to be finished by the end of the week and has tentatively set October 26 for the first punch list.

The building is still expected to be finished in time for the November 7 election to be held in the facility.

Commissioners Woody Lindsey, Ray Marion, Tommy Box and Tim Addison along with Judge Jim Barron were all in attendance.

The next meeting will be held on Monday, October 23, at 10 am.
