Brownfield Football Preview

Looking ahead to this upcoming football season there should be a lot of excitement for the brownfield cubs. Returning 3 offensive starters and 4 on the defensive is not an ideal number to have when it comes to returning players. But after getting a good look at them on this past inter-team scrimmage, we should give some positivity to some stout D-line players who have the size to play in 5-A or 6-A schools.

Trae Timmons makes the jump from wide receiver to quarterback; he has the ideal height for the position. Coach Brantley has confidence in his young play-caller saying that he has been putting in the work over the summer break, allowing the coaches to teach and mold him into what he needs to be. Reps will be necessary for him to grow into the position. Gaining that experience and reading the defense will be crucial for his growth.

Jordan Stell carried a big chunk of the offensive load last year earning 557 yards and 6 total touchdowns. He will be huge in helping Timmons grow if he is the player-caller starting week 1. LB Leo Perez is one of the team’s top juniors and will help anchor that defensive front. RB Asiel Morin is another top junior and will probably look to share snaps with Stell. After losing 15 of their starters to graduation, the Cubs will have holes to fill.

This makes this a very inexperienced team at the varsity level. Coach Brantley is positive he can build off of last season’s success and continue to build this program. Texas High School Football magazine has the Cubs finishing second place. If things go right for the team, they could prove the magazine wrong and Denver City preseason district crown.
