Texas Tech took an 84-50 loss to No. 14 Iowa State on Tuesday at the Hilton Coliseum to extend a four-game losing streak to begin conference play.
The Red Raiders (10-6, 0-4 Big 12) will travel to Austin this weekend to take on No. 10 Texas at 7 p.m. on Saturday at the Moody Center. The Cyclones (13-2, 4-0 Big 12) have now won six in a row going into a road game at No. 2 Kansas on Saturday.
“Patience is gone,” Texas Tech head coach Mark Adams said. “We are in urgency mode. We’re going to have to make some major changes. Mainly in the effort, attitude, and toughness. It takes a lot of effort and works to get this turned around. This is a wake-up call.”

Iowa State led throughout the game, jumping out to a 39-20 halftime lead with a 20-3 run to end the half, and never pulled back in the 34-point victory. The Cyclones topped Tech by 37 in the 2015 season for the previous largest margin of defeat. Texas Tech took two of three over Iowa State last season, including a 72-41 quarterfinal win in the Big 12 Championship.
De’Vion Harmon led Tech with 14 points, five steals, four assists, and five rebounds. He was 6-for-13 from the field in the game for the Red Raiders who struggled all night shooting, going 19-for-52 (36.5 percent) from the field and just 5-for-26 on 3-pointers. Pop Isaacs returned from concussion protocol that had him miss last Saturday’s game against Oklahoma and finished with 10 points. Isaacs was just 1-for-9 on 3-pointers in the game where he had three assists and three steals. Kevin Obanor would add seven points while Jaylon Tyson had five and Daniel Batcho four. Batcho, who also missed the game last Saturday, finished with three rebounds and three blocked shots.
Gabe Kalscheur led Iowa State with 25 points after going 5-for-6 on 3-pointers, while Jaren Holmes had 15 points and Caleb Grill added 14. Grill was 4-for-8 on 3-pointers for the Cyclones who were 12-for-22 on 3-pointers in the game. ISU finished the night shooting 49.3 percent from the field.

Iowa State took a 39-20 halftime lead with an 11-0 run to end the half. Isaacs and Harmon led the Red Raiders with six points each while Tyson had five. Tech had committed 13 turnovers through 20 minutes which led to 17 points by the Cyclones. The Red Raiders were only 2-for-11 on 3-pointers and ISU was 7-for-13, including Grill hitting a 3-pointer at the halftime buzzer to make it a 19-point game. Kalscheur led the Cyclones with 15 points and Grill had eight. ISU had committed only seven turnovers.
Tech, which had not lost back-to-back games since the 2020-21 season, will now look to avoid a 0-5 start to its conference schedule for the first time since 2015 when that team started 0-6. The Red Raiders will travel to Austin with a 0-4 record against ranked opponents this season. The Longhorns (13-2, 2-1 Big 12) host No. 17 at 8 p.m. on Wednesday before playing Tech on Saturday in the first matchup between the two programs at the new Moody Center.
