Students compete at the Texas Tech Red Raider Classic

Several members of the Denver City high school UIL Literary team recently competed at the Texas Tech Red Raider Classic last weekend with many of them coming home with several honors.

In the overall calculator event Riley Calk finished in 3^rd place, Jorge Ronquillo was 4^th, and Nick Yanez was 10^th. Competing against others in the same grade Nick Yanez was 2^nd and Matthew Gonzales was 3^rd in the 9^th grade division; Hannah Williamson was 3^rd in the 10^th grade division, and Riley Calk was 1^st and Jorge Ronquillo was 2^nd in the 12^th grade division.

In Computer Applications Angel Trujillo was 1^st and Diana Saenz was 3^rd.

In Copy Editing Hannah Williamson was 6^th.

Competing in Mathematics Nick Yanez was 3^rd and Matthew Gonzales was 4^th in the 9^th grade division, Cindy Lai was 10^th in the 10^th grade division; and on the 12^th grade level Ryan Langehennig was 7^th and Riley Calk was 9^th.

In the Science event and competing on the 9^th grade level Nick Yanez was 3^rd and Matthew Gonzales was 4^th; Wyatt Bryant was 10^th in the 10^th grade level; Jorge Ronquillo was 8^th, Diana Saenz was 9^th, and Blaise Sanchez was 10^th. These students were competing on the 12^th grade level.

In Number Sense Ryan Langehennig was 3^rd overall, Nick Yanez was 7^th, and Matthew Gonzales was 8^th. On the grade level Nick Yanez was 1^st and Matthew Gonzales was 2^nd on the 9^th grade level; Cindy Lai was 3^rd in the 10^th grade level; Ryan Langehennig was 1^st, Riley Calk was 4^th, and Jorge Ronquillo was 7^th on the 12^th grade level.

In the overall results for every event the team from Denver City finished in 4^th place. The Number Sense team was 1^st, the Calculator team also came home with 1^st place honors, and the Computer Science Team was 2^nd.

Individually Riley Calk received her second $2,000 TTU Scholarship and Ryan Langehennig received his second $500 TTU Scholarship.
