Several members of the Denver City high school UIL Literary team recently competed at the Texas Tech Red Raider Classic last weekend with many of them coming home with several honors.
In the overall calculator event Riley Calk finished in 3rd place, Jorge Ronquillo was 4th, and Nick Yanez was 10th. Competing against others in the same grade Nick Yanez was 2nd and Matthew Gonzales was 3rd in the 9th grade division; Hannah Williamson was 3rd in the 10th grade division, and Riley Calk was 1st and Jorge Ronquillo was 2nd in the 12th grade division.
In Computer Applications Angel Trujillo was 1st and Diana Saenz was 3rd.
In Copy Editing Hannah Williamson was 6th.
Competing in Mathematics Nick Yanez was 3rd and Matthew Gonzales was 4th in the 9th grade division, Cindy Lai was 10th in the 10th grade division; and on the 12th grade level Ryan Langehennig was 7th and Riley Calk was 9th.
In the Science event and competing on the 9th grade level Nick Yanez was 3rd and Matthew Gonzales was 4th; Wyatt Bryant was 10th in the 10th grade level; Jorge Ronquillo was 8th, Diana Saenz was 9th, and Blaise Sanchez was 10th. These students were competing on the 12th grade level.
In Number Sense Ryan Langehennig was 3rd overall, Nick Yanez was 7th, and Matthew Gonzales was 8th. On the grade level Nick Yanez was 1st and Matthew Gonzales was 2nd on the 9th grade level; Cindy Lai was 3rd in the 10th grade level; Ryan Langehennig was 1st, Riley Calk was 4th, and Jorge Ronquillo was 7th on the 12th grade level.
In the overall results for every event the team from Denver City finished in 4th place. The Number Sense team was 1st, the Calculator team also came home with 1st place honors, and the Computer Science Team was 2nd.
Individually Riley Calk received her second $2,000 TTU Scholarship and Ryan Langehennig received his second $500 TTU Scholarship.
