After delaying their regularly Monday meeting one day because of the Memorial Day holiday, the Commissioners Court met in regular session on Tuesday, May 30 where they addressed their weekly agenda.
First on the agenda was to audit and settle all accounts against the county and direct their payments. The county had total bills of $567,146.80, which included $295,000 to Shinnery Oaks, and hospital bills that totaled $185,026.19.
After back and forth discussions in several previous meeting the Commissioners finally gave their approval to county building rental fees. For the county buildings located in Denver City those fees are as follows: In the Senior Citizen Building, Big room for all parties a fee of $700 will be collected with a refundable cleaning deposit of $200; for the small rooms if rented by an individual $350 will be collected with a refundable cleaning deposit of $150; if rented by a business $250 will be collected with a refundable cleaning deposit of $150. If both rooms are rented by an individual $450 will be collected with a refundable cleaning deposit of $150; and if rented by a business $500 will be collected with a refundable deposit of $150.
The Party House at the Yoakum County park if rented by an individual $300 will be collected with a refundable cleaning deposit of $150; if rented by a business $350 will be collected with a refundable cleaning deposit of $150.
For those buildings in Plains individuals renting the Community Building $300 will be collected with a refundable cleaning deposit of $150; a business renting the Community Building $350 will be collected with a refundable cleaning deposit of $150; Stock Barns (All Parties) $400 will be collected with a refundable cleaning deposit of $100; and Clubroom (All Parties) $75 will be collected with a refundable cleaning deposit of $25.
In the next two items the Court acknowledged donations to the Yoakum County Libraries from Lea County Electric of $200 for the Summer Reading Program and a grant from Dollar General Literacy Foundation of $2000 for the 2017 Summer Reading Program.
Precinct #3 Commissioner Tommy Box asked the Court to consider and take action on advertising for the sale of Lot 1, Wilmeth Subdivision, Section 428, Block D John H Gibson Survey. Box said the land is adjacent to his Precinct barn and had no use for his Precinct. He wanted a minimum $1500 start bidding price for the one tract. After a motion was made it was unanimously approved.
Sheriff David Bryant was also in attendance requesting expenditure from equipment line item for the purchase of 10 tasers for the Sheriff’s department. Bryant explained the current tasers used by his deputies were basically obsolete and could not be repaired should anything happen to them. He went on to say if the new tasers were purchased right now it would save the department $100 per taser. After explaining more advantages of the new tasers Commissioners unanimously approved $15,511.93 for the purchase.
Hospital Administrator Jerry Osborn met with the Commissioners to discuss a pharmacy lease agreement with the Yoakum County hospital. The Court also unanimously approved the new lease agreement.
Todd Carrillo, the computer and technology director, made a request to purchase new hardware from Computer Transition Services Inc. for IT project with Yoakum County Hospital. Carrillo recommended to buy all new systems, which he said it would be good for at least 10 years.
“We need to get new equipment and do it right the first time,” Carrillo said. “If we try to replace as the equipment goes down it will end up costing us more plus taking up some valuable time.”
After his presentation, the Court unanimously approved $354,000 for the upgrades.
In the next item the Court unanimously approved payment of $10,935.87 from contingency for the Plains Fire Department.
Moving on the Court then unanimously approved a resolution for indigent health care at Yoakum County Jail.
There were no road crossing permit applications, no requests for disposal of county equipment, and no line item transfers. However, there was one Soil Conversation Request in Section 279, a cattle guard crossing in Precinct #3, for Royce Blair.
Commissioners Woody Lindsey and Ray Marion gave an update on the hail damaged roof at the new Denver City Community Building. They informed the Court another medal sheet would be place over the damaged area.
After coming out from the regular session the Court listened to City Council members Joan Brieth and Clinton Bowman concerning updates and improvements to the Denver City swimming pool. The pool is in Precinct #2 and Commissioner Ray Marion assured the Council members he would check into these improvements and get back with them as soon as possible.
The Court resumed to items in the work session and then adjourned.
Commissioners Woody Lindsey, Ray Marion, Tommy Box, and Tim Addison along with County Judge Jim Barron were all in attendance.
The next meeting will be held on Monday, June 5, at 10 am in the County Courthouse.
