It was all about trucks and planes at Yoakum County Library Family StoryTime in Plains on Wednesday, September 14, 2016.
Learning about the national and state flags and pledges was the first thing on the list, followed by a “count UP” to the date. The group then sang “Days of the Week” as well as “Clap a Friend’s Name with Me.”
Three- and four-year-olds were the flannel story helpers. “Stuff My Backpack” included a variety of flannel school supplies and there were many smiles to go around the full Heritage Room.
Settling in, “Drive” by Nathan Clement and “Trucks” by Patricia Hubbell kept most children’s interest with colorful pictures of big rigs and other fun vehicles.
The children learned a new song by our Summer Reading Program friend, Andy Mason, called “The Pirate Song” in preparation for National Talk-Like-a-Pirate Day (Monday, Sept 19).
After putting away the imaginary telescopes following the active song, “Away in My Airplane” by Margaret Wise Brown was read. Then each child glued pieces of torn paper to make a traffic light craft, aiding in color recognition of the three colors of a stop light.
Each child received a sticker for being a cooperative listener and enjoyed the Scholastic video selection called “Trashy Town.” After the “Wave Good-bye” rhyme, each child grabbed a goodie bag.
Those in attendance today were Penny & Maxwell Landry; Trevor Prince; Avery Coronado; Zaiden; Joseph Pruitt; Abigail, Lanie, & Hope Simpson; Sammuel Rodriguez; Jazzmine & Rylee Lora; Rhea Hoecker; Tabitha, Selah, Kefira, Gabe, & Aspen Blessing; Case Bearden; George & David Wiebe; Ben & Gershom McAdams; Bryson John Vargas; and Alan Morales.
Family StoryTime meets at the Yoakum County Library in Plains at 10 AM each Wednesday during the regular school year. All ages are welcome.
