There are just five weeks left in the regular season of Texas High School Football. Many districts are starting their district action this week, while some have already begun. Districts with only four teams won’t start their district competition until October 23rd, 24th, or 25th. The Brownfield Cubs have one more non-district game before their bye next week, which comes just prior to their district opener. Meadow and Wellman-Union will begin their district season tomorrow night. Last week, I went 31 for 45 in my picks, with many of my incorrect guesses coming from the 4A ranks.

Here are some games of interest in week 7:
LBK Estacado @ Levelland: These two programs have squared off 44 times since the Matadors began playing football in 1968, BTW: they won the 3A State Title the first year they played football. Although Estacado is 23 23-point favorite, it’s the district opener for both, and the Lobos will strong-arm the Matadors. I still pick Estacado.
Littlefield @ Slaton: This is a classic 3A matchup that could determine the district champion, although both teams still need to face Idalou. Littlefield is currently 6-0, while Slaton, having narrowly lost a game by a 2-point conversion, brings a 5-1 record. This will be the toughest game of the season for the Wildcats, and Slaton is still frustrated about their recent loss to Post. Dave Campbell’s rankings have Slaton favored to win by 16 points, and I agree with that prediction.
#7 Gruver @ Stratford: An old-fashioned 2A panhandle matchup. There is approximately 39 miles between Gruver and Stratford, nothing but corn fields, ranchland, and true rivalry. These two programs have played 55 times, in and out of district. Stratford is a 5-point favorite, but I’m sticking to the red and black of Gruver.
