We are now into Week 4 for Texas High School Football! All three Terry County Teams will be away Friday night: Brownfield @ Levelland, Meadow @ Spur, and Wellman-Union @ Grandfalls-Royalty. Last week, I scored 72 out of 90, so I’m getting better.
Here are some games of interest this week:
Lubbock Cooper vs Frenship ought to be a good one here on the South Plains. Did you know that Frenship was never 5A and Cooper was never 4A? In the 2014 UIL Biennial realignments, Frenship was in District 4-4A and jumped to 6A and Cooper was in District 2-3A and jumped to 5A. It was in 2014 that both teams began to play against each other after a 29-year hiatus. Since 2020, Frenship is 4-1 against Cooper, and the average scoring difference in the past five games is 4 points.
Seminole @ Liberty, The Patriots are in their second season and already have a better record than their inaugural season. They are playing exceptionally well and are the underdogs against the Indians. I picked Liberty, and we’ll see how it goes.
Slaton @ Post, These two programs have faced each other since 1921, playing a total of 92 games in their 103-year rivalry. Post currently holds a record of 3-0 and is ranked #5 in Class 2A DI, while Slaton has not yet made it into the top 10 but is ranked in the top 25. Although Post is favored to win by 3 points, I am choosing Slaton.
Rankin @ Borden Co., both teams are very tough.
Whiteface @ Klondike, both squads are good, and both have played Happy and placed the mercy rule on the Cowboys. Whiteface is #4 in Class 1A DI, and Klondike is #2 in Class 1A DII. I picked Klondike simply because the game is in Klondike.
