On September 17, members of Spirit of the Plains, including Xoe Bell, Parker Chapman, Benjamin Harnden, Eian Mulkey, Raymond Rodriguez, and Jessie Valles, participated in auditions at Lubbock Christian University for the 2025-26 Association of Texas Small School Bands (ATSSB) All Region Jazz Bands. They joined a competitive group of 190 student musicians who performed before panels of five judges, vying for a spot in the band.
Among the participants, Brownfield students Eian Mulkey and Raymond Rodriguez successfully earned positions in the ATSSB Region Jazz Bands, which will perform in January at South Plains College. Will Burks, the BISD Director of Bands, remarked on the importance of preparation for auditions, noting that while it would have been advantageous for all students to secure spots, the experience itself is valuable for future opportunities in region band.
Eian Mulkey achieved the 2nd chair for Tenor Sax in Jazz 1, while Raymond Rodriguez secured the 3rd chair for Trumpet in Jazz 3. The concert featuring these talented musicians is scheduled for January 17 at the Helen Devitt Jones Theatre for the Performing Arts on the campus of South Plains College in Levelland.
