The Type B Economic Developement Corporation is ready to roll.

The changeover is complete! Forward Brownfield Economic Development Corporation (BEDC) is now ready to serve you.

As you may recall, an election held in May focused on shifting Brownfield Industrial Development Corporation (BIDCorp) efforts from industrial development to retail. This change was overwhelmingly supported. For Brownfield, this means that the BEDC is now better equipped to assist more residents. While BEDC can still support industry and manufacturing, it is now also ready to help both existing and new businesses.

BEDC offers grants and incentives; however, they are not a bank and do not provide loans or financing. Their support could involve helping an existing business improve its exterior, such as installing a new sign or door, or making indoor renovations. BEDC may be able to assist with any of these improvements.

The BEDC currently has two types of incentives available:

  1. Building Improvement Incentive Program: This is a matching grant program of up to $10,000. We have allocated $100,000 for this grant. To qualify, the work must be visible from the outside of the building. For example, if you plan to spend $20,000 on a new sign, the BEDC can offer you $10,000, and you would contribute the remaining $10,000. The BEDC can also provide smaller grants; for a $5,000 project, we could offer $2,500.
  2. Type B BEDC Incentive: This incentive is more flexible and can be used for a wide range of business needs that promote growth or expansion. If your business requires a new air conditioner or a walk-in cooler for your restaurant, BEDC may be able to assist. There is no set spending limit for this incentive, but again, they are not a bank.
