Brownfield Cubs (0-1) vs #21 Slaton Tigers (1-0) @ Slaton: 7:00 pm kickoff
Unfortunately, the Cubs are coming off a loss to Muleshoe, with a score of 42-12. However, it’s a new week, and practice has gone really well. Perhaps Brownfield has shaken off all the jitters and nerves, allowing them to focus on their upcoming game against Slaton. The Tigers topped Friona last Friday night with a score of 50-22. Notably, at halftime, Slaton was leading 28-22. Clearly, the team made some adjustments during the break, scoring 22 more points while not allowing Friona to score again in the second half.
Brownfield will need to improve their special teams after a mishandled kickoff return and a bad snap on a punt. The Mules capitalized on these mistakes, scoring 14 points and shifting the momentum away from the Cubs. Before the lightning delay, Brownfield was starting to drive the ball and gain momentum, but the officials paused the game due to the weather. When the game resumed, the Cubs struggled to regain their footing, as the Mules’ defense allowed only 39 total yards of offense.
Now that the Cubs have experienced the new offense and defense, they should be ready to challenge the Tigers effectively. Expect Brownfield to execute the offensive plays better this time. The defense will need to remain strong against a fast-running team. Last week, Slaton recorded a total of 529 offensive yards, with 168 yards through the air and 361 on the ground.

Measdow Broncos (1-0) vs West Texas Tornadoes (0-1) @ Meadow: 7:30 pm kickoff
The Meadow Broncos had an impressive performance last Friday night, defeating the Lubbock Titans with a score of 58-8, which triggered the 45-point mercy rule. The Broncos totaled 393 offensive yards, with 99 yards through the air and 294 yards on the ground. Brayson Parker was a standout player, accumulating most of those rushing yards with 18 carries for 256 yards and scoring 5 touchdowns. Additionally, he had 2 receptions for 42 yards, which included another touchdown..
Meadow is set to face the WT Tornadoes, who ironically hail from Slaton. Last week, the Tornadoes suffered a significant loss to Hart, with a final score of 46-0. They managed a total of 161 offensive yards, with 97 yards rushing and 62 yards passing. The Broncos are unlikely to make any changes from their previous game and will continue to execute their game plan.

Wellman-Union Wildcats (1-0) vs Kress Kangaroos (1-0) @ Wellman: 7:30 pm kickoff
The Wildcats had an exciting victory last Thursday night, defeating #17 Spur 26-22 in a game that felt like a breakthrough for the team. After struggling to secure a season opener win since 2019, this win was a significant boost for their confidence. Wellman-Union showcased a balanced offensive effort, totaling 248 yards with 71 yards through the air and an impressive 177 rushing yards. This win not only highlights their ability to compete at a higher level but also sets a positive tone for the rest of the season.
The Kress Kangaroos will come bouncing into Wellman Friday night with a win of their own over Loop 40-18. Although Kress had a total of 338 offensive yards, consisting of 35 passing yards and 303 rushing yards, Coach LaBadie plans to slow down their offense. The Wildcats’ defense will attack aggressively, similar to their performance against Spur. As long as they can keep the ball out of Kress’s hands, they should start the season 2-0.
