Terry County Commissioners meet in person

After months of Zoom meetings, the Terry County Commissioners met in person in the Basement Meeting Room of the Terry County Courthouse.

The Commissioners did approve a resolution opposing SB234/HB749 – Efforts to Silence County Officials. These bills propose to limit counties from spending money for lobbyists to work for County issues in Austin.

The resolution states:

The resolution passed unanimously.

The Commissioners approved TxDOT funds from the Assistance Program. This is done each year. TxDOT provides some funding to help with upkeep of roads in the county. The amount of the assistance this year is $19,214.

The court also approved the agreement for the property Fraud Alert Program from Data Preservation Solutions. This is a program for which citizens can sign up and the DPS will alert them if anything is filed on their property, such as liens, etc. Once the County has enrolled in the program, a number or email address will be supplied where each citizen can choose whether or not to sign up for this alert system. County Clerk Kim Carter stated, “This is just an additional safeguard where people can be aware of any proceedings dealing with their property. I did let the County Attorney’s office go over this and they did look over the agreement before we submitted to the Commissioners. This is just another way to keep the integrity of our records.”

The Court approved the extension of the County Disaster Declaration due to the Winter Storm event a couple of weeks back.

The remainder of the agenda was mostly routine business.

In the announcement portion, Judge Butch Wagner did say that he was removing the “Masks Required” signs from the Courthouse doors on Wednesday. “However, each individual office may still choose to require masks in their office,” stated Wagner.

The Commissioners will next meet on Monday, March 22 at 10 am in the Basement Meeting Room of the Courthouse.
