With a bit of snow still looming in the shadows and the walkways freshly wet, the Yoakum County Library in Plains was full of energetic children for Storytime on Wednesday, Jan. 6. Since 2016 has arrived, the calendar activity for the group included counting to six (the date as well as the last digit of the new year).
After the weather was discussed and the allegiances recited, a new song was presented called “I’m a Friendly Snowman.” Then the youngsters enjoyed participating in two action rhymes: “The Snowboarder and First Snowflake of Winter.”
Those in attendance were Ella and Case Bearden, Kynlee Martin, Jordy Bell, Ethan Moya and Jadon and Nathan McAdams. There were giggles when “A Hat for Minerva Louise” was read, and each of them admired the creative book “Snowmen at Night.” Lastly, “Pip and Squeak” surprised everyone with a fun ending regarding a snowman’s carrot nose.
A short episode of “Tom and Jerry’s Winter Wackiness” finished off the weekly time together. Each child joyfully received a snack and color sheet as they left. Storytime in Plains meets 10 a.m. every Wednesday at 10am during the school year and is open to all ages. In two weeks, on Wednesday, January 20, Michelle Cooper, the Education and Outreach Coordinator for the South Plains and SandyLand area, will present a special Southern Ogallala Water Conservation Program. Mark your calendars and don’t miss this cool learning time!
