Meet Brownfield’s new police chief

BROWNFIELD, TX (April 24, 2023) – The City of Brownfield has hired Christopher Kotzur as its new Chief of Police.

The City selected Strategic Government Resources (SGR) to assist in conducting the extensive search that resulted in an impressive candidate pool. SGR is an executive recruitment firm based in Keller, Texas, specializing in recruiting, assessing, and developing innovative, collaborative, and authentic leaders for local governments. SGR’s proprietary recruitment and vetting process produced an incredibly strong field of candidates. The City received 19 applications from candidates in 6 states.

Chris began his career in law enforcement in 1998 with the Comal County, Texas Sheriff’s Office as a patrol deputy. He took a brief break from the profession in 2000 to work in the private sector, but quickly missed helping others and began his career with the City of Cibolo Police Department in May 2001. Chris worked his way through the ranks of Patrol Officer, Corporal, Sergeant, and Lieutenant during his time with the Cibolo Police Department. He worked in every functional area of the department and enjoyed learning all aspects of local law enforcement. Chris attended the 252nd session of the FBI National Academy in 2013. He retired from the Cibolo Police Department in February 2021 and took a year off to spend time with family. During his time in Cibolo, the city grew from a population of 3,000 to 33,000.

Chris will begin a new phase in his career as the newly selected Chief of Police in Brownfield, Texas in June 2023. “I’m extremely excited about the opportunities and challenges this new position creates — my goal is to make the staff the best that they can be and the Brownfield Police Department the best one on the South Plains,” stated Kotzur.

“The Police Chief fills an important and highly visible role in our community, and we are looking forward to working with Chris, who will strive to protect our community and foster positive relationships with personnel, residents and our community stakeholders,” said Brownfield City Manager Jeff Davis.
