Maurice Martin of Lubbock, Texas peacefully went home to be with his Lord and Savior on November 29, 2024. He was 94. Maurice was born July 27, 1930, in Lubbock County to Tyler and Ima Lee Martin. His family moved to Gomez, Texas when he was a small child, and he attended Brownfield schools where he played football and was on their first high school baseball team. He graduated in 1949 from Brownfield High School. He entered Daughn’s Business college in 1950 and enlisted in the Air Force in January 1951.

Maurice married Juanda Marie Crews on December 19,1951 in Brownfield and after completing basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas, he was transferred to Selma, Alabama, where their first daughter, Sharon, was born. Two years later he transferred to Victoria, Texas and his second daughter, Leslie was born. He was discharged in 1954 as a Buck Sergeant. Maurice moved his family back to Brownfield and in 1968 their third daughter, Staci, was born.

He went to work for Goble Furniture where he was employed for several years and in 1957, he began working for the US Postal Service where he enjoyed a long rewarding career of 32 years, retiring in 1989. Beginning in 1990, Maurice served as the Veterans Service Officer for Terry County and retired after ten years in 2000.

During this time, he experienced the unexpected loss of his wife, Juanda in 1993. Maurice married his current wife Judy Gregg in 1995, and they lived in Brownfield until moving to Ruidoso in 2005 where they spent nine years and then moved to Lubbock in 2014 where he and Judy currently reside.

He and Judy travelled extensively, enjoying many trips abroad and embarked on several cruises. He faithfully attended Indiana Avenue Baptist Church. They served together for many years as volunteers on the parents’ board at Lubbock State Supported Living Center and most recently enjoyed volunteering for the Meals on Wheels program.

Maurice had a gift for conversation and loved spending time with family, friends, and new acquaintances. He leaves behind a legacy that reflects his faith, love and humor. He took pride in serving his country and was actively involved with American Legion for many years. He had the heart of a servant and loved God, his family, football, and his loyal dog, Charlie, who was always by his side.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 30 years, Judy, brother, Clancy Martin, daughters, Sharon (Ricki) Pendleton, Leslie (Barry) McPherson, Staci Moreno, Sherri (Chris) Manazir, Teresa Lindly, Gregg (Rhonda) Lindly, grandchildren, Zayne (Courtney) McPherson, Erika (Jay) Rolston, Mandi (Wayne) Bess, Tyler Pendleton, Josh (Erica) McPherson, Eric Moreno, Amanda Moreno, Devin Moreno, Brooke Falkenberg, Chase (Megan) Dupuis, John (Melanie) Dupuis, twenty great grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and his “lil sweet pea” dog, Charlie.

A memorial service will be held at 1030 a.m., Thursday December 5, 2024, at Indiana Baptist Church. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Maurice’s life.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to a charity of your choice, Indiana Avenue Baptist Church, St Jude Children Hospital or Lubbock State Supported Living Center.
