Making a Difference

As I write this, I am in the high school gym preparing for a Job Fair. There are lots of businesses that have signed up to participate. Hopefully, they will all show up and also, hopefully we will have a good turn out of folks looking for a job. The problem these days is that it seems that many times people want a paycheck without actually having to work! Doesn’t that sound wonderful? I would love a paycheck without having to actually work for it. Unfortunately, if you want a good pay check in today’s world, you need to actually put in the work.

In God’s world, the paycheck comes in believing. If you believe in Jesus Christ as your personal Savior, your paycheck is coming, in the form of eternal life with Him in Heaven! It also comes in knowing that we have His Holy Spirit walking with us daily. But while we are here, there is also work to do. We don’t work to earn our salvation. That was made secure in Him the day we gave our heart and lives to Him. But the mark of a great follower of Christ is being willing to continue to work for Him all your life. There is no retirement age in being a believer! He has work for all of us to do.

I remember talking to a lady well into her 90s one day. She was in tears because she felt like she had nothing left to give her Savior. First, wow! And second, I told her that her prayers would be the most help to anyone in this world. We are never too old to pray for others. I told her I knew in her life she had served God in so many ways, and even though her years of being active in the church and serving as a Sunday school teacher were behind her, that did not mean her years of serving God were over.

We all have work to do in God’s Kingdom. We all have something to contribute for Him. And even as we look forward to retirement in the work world here on earth, we have so much more to offer Him even all the way to death. I remember my mom, as she was in assisted living, often talking to the workers about their need for a relationship with Jesus in their lives. I had so many tell me how much they enjoyed sitting and listening as she told them stories from the Bible and stories from her life. Serving up to the end!

So, while we are here on this earth, we all need to be productive givers and have jobs, but we also need to be productive for our Lord. Find you a job and make a difference!
