A couple of things happened this week that have really made me think. One, I was listening to a recording of a local girl singing a great song called “Come Jesus Come.” The other was the passing of Pete Rose. Now, I know you are asking yourself, what on earth do these two things have to do with each other.
As I listened to Jayla beautifully singing this song, I thought about whether or not I wanted to pray that prayer. “Come, Jesus come. Let today be the day.” I love the song and it truly is a beautiful song, and Jayla does a beautiful job with it. But, I can’t help but think of all the people I know and love that I just don’t think are ready for Jesus to come. It honestly brings me to tears as I am listening again to her singing and seeing in my head the faces of those for whom the day Jesus comes will not be a happy day. Members of my own family!! Oh my goodness! If they only knew how desperately I pray for them each day. I so do not want Jesus to come until I knew all those in my circle are ready. The problem is that my circle continues to grow! If I do not get busy and put more feet in my prayers, they will not be ready.
Pete Rose. He was the greatest baseball player ever, in my opinion. He won many awards and was nicknamed Charlie Hustle, and rightfully so. No one ever put as much heart into the game as he did. No one ever out hustled this guy. He was the best. (Argue with me later.) But for all his accolades and his fame, the Hall of Fame still eluded him, based on some decisions he made outside of baseball. Do I think he should be in the Hall of Fame? I definitely do. But the Hall of Fame pales in comparison to heaven. The accolades he earned here on earth are nothing compared to heaven. I do not have any idea if this man had a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. I have no clue where he stood with our Savior. But what I do know is that if he did not have that saving grace in his life, all those trophies and rings and honors were not enough to get him into heaven.
It does not matter who we are. It does not matter if we are famous, or if we just live our lives in small town America. If you have not come to that moment of accepting Jesus Christ into your heart and asking Him to forgive your sins, and trusting Him with your life, you will not enter into heaven. That sounds harsh and like a closed door. But it is the truth. God does not close the door. You do when you do not choose to follow Him.
Oh my friends! Please don’t let the end come and you not be ready. If you want to know more, contact me. Find other friends that know Him. Don’t let that day come and you not be ready. And it is not all just about going to heaven when you die. It is about that blessing of living with Him in your life every single day while you are still here!
Let today be the day you come to know the Lord who gave His life for you. It will make all the difference!
