I got to witness something really beautiful last night. I got to see right around 100 area young people shouting and singing and praising God at an event. It was marvelous! For many years, See You at the Pole has been a big thing in our schools. Students gather at 7:15 am around their school’s flag pole and pray for their school, their teachers, and each other. In recent years, another event has started. Saw You at the Pole is an evening praise and worship event. And it was at this event that I saw kiddos from various churches and schools worshipping God together.
I watched as they played games outside and enjoyed pizza and snow cones. But, when we went inside, the joy and excitement on the faces was unparalleled. As the worship music was being played and sung, kids lined up near the stage with arms held high. They danced around to the music. They listened attentively to the speaker, who was a former Texas Tech football player. Then I saw them as they prayed together. Heads bowed. Prayers being offered. It was pretty cool!
I say all that to say this. There is revival happening in our land. It has been happening for some time. I know there are those who believe religion is dead. I see the reports that church attendance is falling off. I see surveys that say the majority of people either don’t believe in Jesus, or they are not sure. That is all pretty depressing, but then I see the videos of college campuses across our land holding huge revivals. I see more and more of the “famous” folks beginning to take a stand for God on their very public platforms. I like it.
We live in a world full of people who are not following Christ. People for whom trusting in God is just a bizarre concept. The world needs the followers of Christ to step up and be bold. To not be ashamed to profess that Jesus is Lord of their lives. We have got to decide that today is the day. Not tomorrow. Start being bold about the God you serve today. A mom was telling me about her child who was at the event last night. He was amazed that there were so many Christians willing to step up and show the world in whom they trust. She said it made him feel good to know that he was not alone.
If we are not willing to be bold for Christ, then how do we expect the rest of the world to hear? As it says in Romans, “How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can anyone preach unless they are sent?” Oh, answer this with the words from Isaiah! “Here am I Lord, send me!”
Be bold in your faith! It will make a difference!
