Making a Difference

In my Sunday school class recently, we have had a series of lessons on the Holy Spirit. I think it has been very interesting. They may not think so! We have talked a lot about how the Holy Spirit comes to us at salvation. The point when we have given our hearts and lives over to Jesus and asked Him to become Lord of our lives. This is when the gift of the Holy Spirit is given to you.

What purpose does the Holy Spirit serve in our lives? The Holy Spirit is our guide and our protector. He will prompt us certain ways.  A few years back, I was driving down Main Street and I saw a wreck happen right in front of me. It was not serious. A car ran a stop sign and hit another car. Bot vehicles pulled over into the church parking lot and I called the police. I was on my way to do something, but I stopped and made sure all were okay. The couple that got hit were brand new college graduates, heading to Arizona to see her mother. I just checked in with them and went on my way to whatever it was I was doing. When I got through, I started to head home, but I just felt an “urging” in my heart to go check on these kids. Sure enough, they were still standing there with this wrecked vehicle, looking lost. The car would drive a little, so I guided them over to the local body shop. Randy looked at the car, which now had four flats on it, and determined that it would not drive. They needed a rental car to finish their journey. Soooo, next thing I know, I am loading them up in my car and driving them to Lubbock to get a rental car. We had a little conversation in the car as we drove north. When they had their car, they followed me back to Randy’s to get all their stuff out of their car. We stood there and talked a bit more. Turns out her father had recently died and she was having some anger at God over it. I talked with her about the goodness of God and His plan for our lives. I asked them if I could pray with them. They agreed. She hugged me and said she did not feel like it was an accident that I had come to their rescue. That has been about three years ago now. Both of those kids are still on my daily scripture text list. I hear back from them occasionally I will likely never see them again . . . here, anyway.

That was the Holy Spirit in my life. It was not me being special and kind. It was me being willing to listen, for sure. But it was the Holy Spirit who led me to those kids who were scared and had so many questions about life.

That is the Holy Spirit. Moving us in ways we do not even understand to do the will of the Father. If you have given your heart to Jesus, do not ignore the promptings of the Holy Spirit in your life. You could be the tool God wants to use to make a difference for all eternity in someone else’s life.

Listen to the voice of the Holy Spirit! It will make a difference.
