Lady Cubs Explode Past Lamesa, Set Stage for Showdown with Denver City

by Eric

After suffering a 19-11 loss to Coahoma last Monday, March 16th, the Brownfield Lady Cubs bounced back in dominant fashion Friday, rolling past the Lamesa Tornadoes 16-6. With that win, they are now sitting tied for first in District with Coahoma and cracked the Top-25 at #9 in the state.

The Cubs once again showcased their offensive firepower, continuing a trend that has defined their season so far. Brownfield has now recorded six wins by 10 runs or more, proving just how dangerous this lineup can be when it gets going.

Brownfield has been on a tear lately, winning six of its last seven games to improve to 10-4 on the season. During that stretch, the Cubs have been red-hot at the plate, averaging an impressive 13.7 runs per game and putting constant pressure on opposing pitching staffs.

Last Friday’s win was also significant in light of recent history. Brownfield had gone just 2-7 against Lamesa in their previous nine meetings, but the Cubs flipped the script in a big way with the 16-6 victory. One trend that continued, however, is the importance of home field—each of the last four matchups between these two teams has been won by the home team.

Now, the focus quickly shifts to the second round of district with a home matchup against #25 Denver City.

Brownfield has had the upper hand in that series as of late, going 8-2 against the Mustangs in recent meetings. The Cubs will look to add to that success when they host Denver City at 5 p.m. Friday.

Both teams will enter the matchup with plenty of momentum. Brownfield is coming off a commanding win over Lamesa, while Denver City arrives riding a strong stretch of its own, highlighted by an upset victory over then-No. 3 Coahoma (now ranked No. 17) and a dominant 25-3 win over the Tornadoes on Monday. That performance pushed the Mustangs to an 8-5 record, marked their third straight win over Lamesa, and helped move them into third place in the district standings.

The last time Brownfield and Denver City squared off, fans were treated to a back-and-forth thriller. The Cubs outlasted the Mustangs 13-11 on March 2 in a game that featured explosive offense, momentum swings, and clutch plays down the stretch. If that matchup was any indication, Friday’s contest could bring more of the same. Both teams come in swinging hot bats and riding the momentum of big wins, setting the stage for another high-energy showdown. Now the question becomes: can Brownfield continue its recent dominance in the series, or will Denver City make the necessary adjustments and flip the script this time around?
