Showdown Now Official

With the Fillies big 21-13 win over Roosevelt on Tuesday coupled with a Brownfield Lady Cub win over Post also on Tuesday the showdown between the top two teams in the district for the winner take all district championship will be staged on the Fillies home turf Friday.

After another slow start the Fillies bats came alive in the 2nd inning with five runs. After the Lady Eagles plated a single run in their half of the 2nd the Fillies exploded for seven more runs in the top of the third to extend their lead to 12-1. Once again Roosevelt came back with two runs in the half of the inning.

The Fillies came up with four more in the top of the 5th inning and it looked like the game would end on the mercy 10 run rule. But the Lady Eagles answered the bell scoring 5 runs to take the game into the 6th inning with the Fillies still on top 17-11. The Fillies held on with two runs in each of the last innings to single runs in the same innings for Roosevelt for the final 21-13 score.

Once again just using nine players eight of the Fillies had at least one hit. Kathleen Chavez, Hanna Gonzales, and Jewel Santillan led the way with three hits each. Denisse Saenz, Haley Villarreal, and Johnna Hix all had two hits, and Haleigh Gonzales and Kelsey De La Rosa both had one hit.

Chavez had four RBI’s on two doubles, Villarreal and Santillan both had three RBI’s, Haleigh Gonzales, Saenz, and Hix all had two RBI’s, and De La Rosa had one RBI.

Five of the Fillies RBI’s came on illegal pitches from the Roosevelt pitcher when the bases were loaded.

The Fillies allowed the Lady Eagles to hang around with five errors.

Santillan went the distance giving up 13 runs on 14 hits, struck out two and had no base on balls.

Game time on Friday will be 5 pm. Both teams will advance into the playoffs with bi-district action due to get underway on Friday, May 29 with the 3rd and 4th place teams from district 4.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

JV Fillies Throttle Roosevelt

The junior varsity Fillie softball team made short work of Roosevelt on Tuesday with a 14-2 pasting of the Lady Eagles.

They jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning and then added five runs in both the 2nd and 3rd innings for the win. Roosevelt’s two runs came in the bottom of the 2nd inning.

The Fillies took advantage of 13 walks to come up with most of their runs. Daniela Escobar had two hits and Daphney Castillo, Victoria Garcia, Samantha Diaz, and Damaris Diaz all had one hit.

Diaz had two RBI’s and Jackie Escalante, Sabrina Velasquez, Escobar, and Castillo all had one RBI.

Becca McCleskey went the distance for the Fillies giving up two runs on one hit and had three strike outs.

The Fillies close out their season on Friday when they host Brownfield.
