Commissioners Court had their first meeting of 2017 on Tuesday, January 3, where they conducted another very short meeting.
The usual Monday morning meeting had been postponed until Tuesday due to the New Year’s holiday.
In their first item, the Court audited and settled all accounts against the County and directed their payments. Being the first meeting of the new year there was only one bill to be paid.
In the next item the Court unanimously approved a bid from Fuel Masters for the purchase of Unleaded and Diesel fuel for all County Departments for the calendar year 2017. There were only two bids submitted for the county fuel.
The Court also unanimously approved a bid from Belkcom for the purchase of gravel, hot and cold mix for all four precincts and Yoakum County Parks for the calendar year 2017.
They also unanimously acknowledged the hiring of Juan Lopez for Precinct 1 effective January 1, 2017.
Bonds for Precinct #1 Commissioner Woody Lindsey, Precinct #3 Tommy Box, and Sheriff David Bryant were also unanimously approved.
Both Commissioner Box and Sheriff Bryant will be starting their first term of office replacing Commissioner Ty Earl Powell and Sheriff Don Corzine who both retired on December 31, 2016. All three of the county officials, along with Sheriff Deputies, were sworn into office by County Judge Jim Barron at 8 am on Sunday, January 1. Other county officials were sworn into office on Tuesday, January 3.
There was no request for the disposal of county equipment, no line item transfers, and no soil conservation request.
Precinct #2 Commissioner Ray Marion reported that both wooden and steel framework was going up with the new Denver City Community Building.
Commissioners Woody Lindsey, Ray Marion, Tommy Box, and Tim Addison along with County Judge Jim Barron were in attendance.
The next meeting will be held on Monday, January 9 at 10 am in the County Courthouse.
