The Brownfield City Council had their regularly scheduled meeting Thursday, morning March 2nd. With there not being any public comments the Council only had 3 items on the agenda and 2 items that were placed in executive session.

The first item on the agenda was to approve the minutes of the February 16th meeting. The Council unanimously approved the item and moved ahead to the next item.

The next item was to hear and discuss the quarterly reports from the City Inspector Israel Limon. “In October we had 151 total building permits, and in November 73 and December 31 for a total of 255 for the quarter. For electrical we had 21 total in October, 33 in November, and 18 in December,” said Limon. The Council approved the item and moved to the next one.

Next on the agenda was to hear and discuss the quarterly updates and reports by the City of Brownfield Parks and Recreation Interim Director Brad Wise.” I am going to start with the amphitheater and party house, we have roof leaks at the amphitheater because of some of the sheet metal screws… the washer on those is deteriorating so we’re getting some water in the building. Mueller metal buildings have the replacement screws so with new screws and washers that should help seal that up so we can stop that leak.” Wise said.

Wise continued saying, “Also, we are thinking of replacing the gas stove with an electric stove just for some safety reasons… there have been times that we have come in and the gas is still on so we plan to replace that. The Aquatic Center we have been cleaning up we’ve had some repairs and have put in some different drains so when we go to winterize the pool we can make sure to drain every pipe. We also got the paint in so it’s ready to be repainted also as of today we will be pulling the electric motors out. There are 4 and those things have been underwater twice since I’ve been here so we’re looking to get those things rewound that way we don’t have any downtime in the season. Coleman park has been inspected and is open for business”.

Councilman Eric Horton asked, “What is the downtime on the motors?” Wise stated, “I’ve taken one in before and it was about four weeks to restore it. So… it’ll be a couple of months.” The council proceeded to approve the item.

The Council then moved into executive session, however, did not take action on anything from the executive session. The meeting was adjourned. All eight members of the Council were present. The next Council meeting is scheduled to be held on March 16 at 7:30 am in the Council Chamber at City Hall.
