LAMESA — A multi-agency crime suppression operation conducted in Lamesa and Dawson County resulted in 35 arrests, nearly 200 traffic stops and the seizure of drugs and a firearm.
The third annual operation, dubbed “Operation Argus,” was held Friday, Sept. 11, and Saturday, Sept. 12. The Lamesa Police Department hosted the effort, which brought together local, county, state and federal law enforcement agencies.
During the two-night operation, officers conducted 188 traffic stops and 64 searches involving vehicles and individuals. Authorities reported seizing 727.2 grams of methamphetamine, 21.82 grams of marijuana, 38 grams of THC and one firearm.
Participating agencies included the Lamesa Police Department, Dawson County Sheriff’s Office, Dawson County Constable’s Office, Lubbock Police Department, Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office, Lubbock Texas Anti-Gang Unit, Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, U.S. Marshals Service, Federal Bureau of Investigation and several divisions of the Texas Department of Public Safety.
Those DPS divisions included Highway Patrol, the Criminal Investigations Division, Criminal Reduction Unit and Air Unit.
Lamesa Police Chief Joshua Peterson thanked the Dawson County Sheriff’s Office for providing the use of the Dawson County Detention Center. He also recognized the Sheriff’s Office Jail Division for its work throughout the operation.
An arrest is not a conviction, and all defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
