Iowa State Representative helped pitch win for the Sioux City Explorers as a last-minute replacement.

Iowa State Representative J.D. Scholten pitched 100 pitches throughout seven innings. He was called three hours before the team was set to take the field. Scholten would help the team win dominantly with an 11-2 score. Pitching a fastball as fast as 89MPH and throwing pitches with a veteran’s presence behind them.

Previously Scholten had played for the Explorers in the 2000’s for four seasons. He was no stranger to Sioux City as he had grown up playing ball there and after he wasn’t drafted in college, he would go on to play in the minor league system. There would also be stints of him playing for Canada, Cuba, Belgium, and Germany.

When Scholten isn’t confined to politics, you can still find him playing in either the amateur leagues or overseas as he played for a professional team in the Netherlands in 2023.
