January 27, 1955 – November 22, 2023
George Melvin Seeley was born on January 27, 1955, in Denver, Colorado to Melvin and Madonna Seeley. The second of the couple’s five children, he was raised on the family farm in Rocky Ford, Colorado, and at the Ouray Ranch in Granby, Colorado.

It was in Granby that George and Peggy met through mutual friends. A whirlwind romance led to their engagement nine days later, and they were married within three months on March 23, 1974. During their nearly 50-year union, the couple raised three beautiful daughters: Crystal, Georgia, and Elizabeth Seeley. Granddaughter Gemma, Elizabeth’s daughter, made him an Uppa—and had him wrapped around her little fingers.
A jack of all trades, George’s career included stints working at a cattle ranch and the Henderson Mine, the nation’s largest molybdenum mine, both in Colorado before he and Peggy relocated to New Mexico in 1975. There, George worked for seven years in the uranium mines in Gallup before moving to Brownfield, Texas, where he worked alongside his brother, Lloyd, in the salt mines for 22 years before becoming self-employed.
Well known for his ability to repair, weld, or fabricate anything, George spent eight years working as an independent contractor alongside his brother, Kenneth, in Monahans, Texas.
He found solace in working the land at his own farm in Brownfield, and great joy in his metal art business which allowed him a unique opportunity to witness to people with his “Git R Done” cowboy at the cross signs. In 2012, George and Peggy planted a small eight-row vineyard of Cinsault grapes. Their vineyard eventually grew to 10 acres and included Roussanne and Mourvèdre varieties. George was known for taking meticulous care of their “Moonlight Vineyard”.
George left this world on November 22, 2023, joining his Lord and Savior, parents, and in-laws in heaven. He is survived by his wife, Peggy, daughters Crystal, Georgia, and Elizabeth, granddaughter Gemma, siblings Rick (Martina), Lloyd (Norma), Trish (Steve), and Kenneth (Patty), and countless other family members and friends.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, April 27, 2024 at Immanuel Baptist Church in Brownfield, Texas.
