Our precious mother, Mary, went to be with our Lord and Savior on Wednesday, July 1, 2026. Born on July 29, 1930, weighing just three pounds, Mary’s start in life was uncertain. The doctor told her mother not to worry with her—she wouldn’t survive. But Mary defied those early expectations, growing into a woman of extraordinary strength, grace, and faith. From humble beginnings, she became not just a survivor but the devoted matriarch of a large and loving family. Mary was blessed with eight children—three boys and five girls—each of whom she cherished deeply. Through the years, she guided her children with a steadfast faith, leading them to know and love the Lord. She was the embodiment of a Godly woman, her example shaping the lives and faith of those she raised. Her home was a place of warmth and kindness, where love was always abundant and her gentle spirit could be felt by all who entered. She was more than a mother; to many, she was also a treasured friend and a beloved grandma. Her nurturing heart extended to everyone fortunate enough to know her. Mary loved to cook, filling her home not just with delicious meals, but with the laughter and conversation that naturally followed. Her green thumb brought beauty to every room—a simple reminder of her ability to cultivate life in all forms. Through every challenge and joy, Mary’s unwavering faith was her guide. She inspired those around her, living out the words of Proverbs 31:28: “Her children rise up and call her blessed.” The legacy she leaves is one of profound love, strength, and devotion to God—a legacy that will live on in her family and all those who were touched by her life. Heaven’s gates are opened wide, and Jesus is greeting her with the biggest hug, surely saying, “Well done, my good and faithful servant.” Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Matteson; granddaughter, Lauren Labeth; parents, Fred and Abbie Yeager; siblings, Jim Yeager, Marie Marks, Roy Yeager, Ginny Midthun, Fred Yeager, Jr. and Thomas Yeager and daughter in law, Elizabeth Matteson.
Mary is survived by her children, David Matteson and wife Paulette, Daniel Matteson and wife Vicki, Gordon Matteson, Nancy Higgins and husband David, Marilou Skipper and husband David, Barbara Rael and husband Joe, Connie Stanley and husband Doug and Heidi May; sister, Sally Yeager; 16 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren; and a great-great grandchild.
