Making a Difference

We have really been having some gorgeous days lately. It is giving us the “Spring Vibes” already! It doesn’t look like we are going to have much more winter, so I guess bring on Spring.

The thing I love about Spring is the new life it brings. Actually, I am already seeing a bit of that new life in my yard right now. In the form of weeds! What a pain weeds are! You have a perfectly lovely lawn that is ruined by weeds. I need to get busy and spray my yard before they completely take over.

Weeds are interesting though. Some of them are really pretty plants that, if allowed to grow in the right situation, would make lovely pot plants. They have pretty flowers. They have interesting leaves of so many different shapes. Real works of art! So, who decided they were weeds, if they are so pretty to look at? Well, the thing is that when they grow where they are not supposed to, they become a nuisance and keep what you really wanted to grow from thriving and being all it could be. Kind of like sin in our lives.

Sin in our lives is like a weed. It may look really pretty. It might just be downright gorgeous and very tempting to keep. But if it is allowed to grow without any effort to stop it, it can take over and push out what is good. When we see a weed growing in our life, we have to take action then. We don’t need to wait until it is just out of control. When you catch yourself thinking something you shouldn’t, stop right there and ask the Holy Spirit to remove that thought. When you catch yourself being tempted to look at something you shouldn’t, that is the time to stop and again, ask the Holy Spirit to direct you away from that.

I want my life to look like a well watered and manicured lawn! I want the flowers to be growing where they should and I want the grass to be green and lush. The only way this is possible is for me to stay in constant contact with the Savior and stay in His Word. His Word is the water for our lives. His Word is what keeps us lush and growing. When we neglect Him and His guidance in our lives, before we know it, weeds will be popping up all over. We have to stay alert and on guard in our lives.

As you battle the weeds in your yard this year, ask God to help you battle the weeds that threaten to grow in your own life. It will make a difference!
